ACCES highlights: Mamy Kanouté
Senegalese singer Mamy Kanouté will join an exciting line-up of artists at the Music In Teranga concert, which takes place as part of the Music In Africa Conference For Collaborations, Exchange And Showcases (ACCES).
Kanouté, who comes from a family of griots and kora players, is a precocious artist. When she was only 14 years old, she joined the famous Senegalese artist and ACCES keynote speaker Baaba Maal’s group as a backing singer in 1998.
Performing with Maal on some of the world’s biggest stages gave Kanouté the opportunity to forge a successful solo career defined by elegance and a powerful vocal style, which is expected to captivate the Music In Teranga audience on 18 November.
Her 2014 album Mousso Lou garnered Kanouté positive reviews for its use of various musical styles and instruments. She has performed at such festivals and concerts as Africa Fête (US), Glastonbury (UK) and WOMADelaide Festival (Australia).
Other acts on the Music In Teranga line-up include Tamikrest (Mali), Moh Dediouf (Senegal), R-Light (Côte d’Ivoire), Prestation Danse “Hop @ Home” (Senegal) and Cheikh Lô (Senegal).
