African artists nominated for Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards
Focalistic, Makhadzi and Major League DJz are some of the South African artists who have been nominated for the 2022 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards set for Santa Monica, US, on 9 April.
They join Nigerian singer Tems, who will compete in the Global Music Star category against Adele (UK), Camilo (Colombia), Tones and I (Australia), BTS (South Korea), Rosalía (Spain) and Olivia Rodrigo (US).
Tems received the nomination last week for her vocal contribution to Wizkid’s global hit ‘Essence’, and adds to her growing list of accomplishments, including a Best Global Music Performance nomination at the 64th Grammys to be held on 3 April.
Focalistic, Major League DJz, Makhadzi, Pitso Mosimane and Tems are nominated in the Favourite African Star category, while Adaeze Onuigbo (Nigeria), Masaka Kids Africana (Uganda), Sassy Taylor Morrison (South Africa), Sbahle Mzizi (South Africa), Uncle Vinny (South Africa), and Witney Ramabulana (South Africa) are nominated in the Favourite African Kidfluencer category.
“We just got nominated @nickelodeon @kidschoiceawards Favourite African Star. Let’s do the right thing Major League FC,” Major League DJz wrote on social media.
Uncle Vinny said: “I am proud to announce that I have been nominated for the nickelodeon kids choice awards 2022 for the category Favourite African Kid Influencer please let’s bring it home.”
Focalistics wrote: Nominated as @nickelodeon Favorite African Star. Squad Sa Maradona, let’s bring this one home.”
The awards will be co-hosted by iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove and four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski.
“Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards has always been such a unique show with tons of energy, superstars and of course, lots of slime,” Cosgrove said. “Nickelodeon has always been my family and to co-host this iconic show alongside Gronk will be a blast.”
The 2022 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards will broadcast on NickToons (DStv Channel 308) and Nickelodeon (DStv channel 305) at 4.50pm on 13 April.
