Akon signs another Nigerian producer
Akon has signed DeeVee, a Nigerian producer formerly associated with popstar D’Banj.
Reports of the signing come on the heels of Akon announcing the signing of producer and recording artist Samklef. Samklef’s own signing followed that of Patrick Elis. And both Elis and Samklef were part of the early years of Wizkid: the former shot the video for the Wizkid single Holla At Your Boy; Samklef produced several tracks from Wizkid’s Superstar album.
As D’Banj associate DeeeVee, whose real name is Divine Ifeanyi Peters, was perhaps most known for producing the track Feeling the Nigga. He is now signed as producer and writer under the new deal, which is said to have been wrapped up in January after extensive talks. In 2015, he caused some controversy after accusing Olamide of stealing song ideas from D'Banj.
As with his other signings, Akon posted a video introduction to the new Konvict Africa member. “You’re witnessing right now the connection. I don’t know if y’all know this man,” he says, as he reduces the volume of a beat playing. “This is DeeVee, straight from Nigeria, one of our prime producers for Konvict Africa. And it is going all the way down, men. I’m out here in Nigerian vibing. It’s crazy.”
In the video DeeVee says, “When you see this man”—pointing to Akon—“you have to be humble. Sit down. Be humble.” The video was captioned, “I am with my man @iamdeevee in Nigeria rocking to his future smashes. He's a beast. Thank you for representing Konvict Africa so proudly.”
To close the video, Akon laughs and nods his head to the playing beat. “We ready boy,” the Senegalese-American says. “It’s coming. Futuristic!”
