Akon, Yemi Alade, Mafikizolo for Dance Afrique
US-based pop artist Akon heads to the UK where he will headline the Dance Afrique Summerfest on 28 August. Holding at the SSE Arena, Wembley for the second time, the maiden edition of the event held at the United Arab Emirate city Dubai.
Following the success of the inaugural London edition, held in March and featuring Nigerian pop twins P-Square and highlife crooner Flavour, as well as Ghanaian reggae singer Shatta Wale, Dance Afrique varies the line-up with the substitution of South Africa for Ghana. Award winning duo Mafikizolo represents the southern Africa country, with MTV Africa Music Award Best Female Artist Yemi Alade flying Nigeria’s flag at the concert.
With Yemi Alade performing, the event is a reunion of sorts for Akon who hung out with several Nigerian artists recently on his visit to Lagos, Nigeria’s entertainment capital. He was spotted at Quilox, one of the city’s upscale clubs.
DJing at the event are DJ Edu of BBC 1Xtra and DJ Unbeetable. Together they are expected to lead a throng of 12000 fans into the groove. The concert also gives fans an opportunity to participate by posting a video of themselves singing and dancing to any song from the performing artists to online.
UK-Ghanaian comedian Kojo will host the event.
