Bassline Fest 2024 introduces DanceAfrika stage
The organisers of Bassline Fest in South Africa have added the DanceAfrika stage, which includes a list of DJs and electronic acts who will perform at this year’s festival at Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg on 25 May.
The stage is courtesy of Dance Afrika, a local video production and event company which showcases the best in South African DJs to create immersive dance music experiences. The stage will include performances by DJ Sebb (Reunion), Samuel Miller (UK) and FiNE (Australia), as well as South Africa’s Tamara Dey, Kamanga, Si-Noir, Pablo, Shamiso and Juma.
The DJs will join headlining act Lira who will share the stage with Maleh (Lesotho), Kadilida (Tanzania), Jay Mitta (Tanzania) and Rita Kamale (Morocco).
“This powerhouse of female talent, from across our beautiful continent, ensures that this year’s Africa Day celebration stays true to its dedication to women, celebrating the mothers, sisters and daughters who have the resilience, nurturing, courage, creativity and tenacity that keeps them going, their families going and in so doing, the continent going,” Bassline Fest creative director Paige Holmes said.
Bassline Fest’s Brad Holmes said: “Bassline Fest is gearing up to celebrate many exciting milestones on Africa Day. Lira returns to the stage with a full band and a powerhouse of other female talent and international DJs celebrating 20 years in the music industry and her miraculous ‘stroke of luck’ journey to full singing performance. This will be her first show with a full band, after two years of recovery.”
Meanwhile, Bassline Fest has formed a partnership with the French Institute of South Africa to collaborate on the Live Music Lab initiative. The partnership provides 15 trainees with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by shadowing live music professionals at the festival. Additionally, these trainees will receive comprehensive music business training in June and further onsite training at the Fete de la Musique event on 22 June at Victoria Yards, where they will put their new skills into practice.
“We also say thank you to our conference partners, ACCES and the Africa Rising Music Conference, who are proud to be collaborating with Bassline Fest, and the IGODA network which is the first Southern African Festivals tour circuit to be created with Bassline as a founder member, bringing together the finest music festivals primarily within the Southern Africa region,” a statement reads. “IGODA Festival Circuit partners with Bushfire in eSwatini, Sakifo in Reunion and Azgo in Mozambique.”
