Black Sherif, Wegz to play Wireless Fest Middle East in March

First held in 2005, Wireless Festival is one of Europe’s biggest celebrations of urban music and pop culture, and is traditionally held in London, UK. Past headliners have included Rihanna, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Stormzy, J. Cole, Tyler, the Creator, Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat. 

The Middle East instalment, which will be held on Yas Island, the location of the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, will feature more than 13 live performances on multiple stages. The Africans were named on a roster that also includes Pakistani hip hop group Young Stunners and US rappers Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert. More acts are expected to be announced soon.

Among Africa’s most exciting new voices, Black Sherif is behind chart-topping singles like ‘First Sermon’ and ‘Kwaku the Traveller’, as well as his debut album The Villain I Never Was.

The artist, who recently surpassed 100 million streams on major digital streaming platforms like Audiomack and Boomplay, rounded off 2022 as the top male artist in Ghana on both Boomplay and Spotify. Last month, he also made Rolling Stone’s list of the Top 40 Best Afropop Songs of 2022.

Wegz is among Egypt’s leading hip hop names and enjoys a reputation as one of the most streamed artists in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He recently performed the official FIFA World Cup 2022 song ‘Ezz El Arab (Arab Glory)’ at the closing ceremony of the football tournament in Qatar last December.
