Call for applications: 2020 BASA supporting grants in SA
Business Arts South Africa (BASA) is calling on organisations in the arts, cultural and heritage sectors to apply for its 2020 Supporting Grant Programme.
The grants are intended to assist in activating sponsorship for a cross-section of arts projects in different regions of the country, by providing vital financial support to projects that are in an already existing business-and-arts relationship.
The guidelines and application forms are available for download here.
The supporting grants programme is available in four phases and the closing and outcome dates are as follows:
- 28 January/3 March
- 18 May/30 June
- 20 July/25 August
- 19 October/24 November
"BASA is a public-private partnership that formed part of South Africa’s strategy to secure greater involvement in the arts and support from businesses in South Africa,” BASA CEO Ashraf Johaardien said.
“In line with that, the purpose of the Supporting Grant Programme is to amplify and augment the impact of partnerships between arts and business partners."
BASA said it had disbursed R40m ($2.8m) to more than 1 600 projects, which had leveraged more R515m in sponsorship from the business sector.
BASA grants officer Sipho Mthiyane said applicants would need to adhere to a rigorous applications process, which had been designed to add value to an already existing partnership between an arts organisation and business sponsors.
"Both the arts applicant and the sponsor must submit a joint application on the prescribed forms and clearly demonstrate how the partnership benefits both the sponsor and the recipient,” he said.
Mthiyane added that emerging and established arts projects that already had sponsors on board were eligible to apply.
