Call for applications: Educational video producers
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is inviting instrument makers and video producers across Africa to apply for an opportunity to produce a series of short educational videos focusing on traditional African instruments.
A non-profit arts organisation, the MIAF produces the Instrument Building and Repair (IBR) project to encourage the formalisation and professionalisation of instrument making and repair in Africa, especially in relation to traditional African instruments.
We invite video producers with expertise in making high-quality educational content to submit proposals. The videos will be used purely for educational purposes.
Requirements
- The videos should assist anyone with an interest in (in order of priority):
- Building an instrument.
- Repairing an instrument.
- Playing an instrument.
- The video series must feature well-developed concepts, with meaningful and coherent continuity – from the first video to the last video.
- The series can feature any instruments, as long as the instruments are African.
- A minimum of two (2) instruments are acceptable for the series. For example, video producers may choose to focus on the mbira, djembe or marimba, etc. More instruments will be advantageous.
- The produced videos should be reasonably short, concise and contain reliable information. The general length should range between 3 and 10 minutes per video.
- All videos must carry an educational goal or at least a clear promotional component that increases awareness of the focus instruments. Examples may include a video on making an instrument from start to finish, or how to repair that instrument.
- Applicants must demonstrate that they have the ability to produce high-quality videos for placement across YouTube, the Music In Africa website (www.musicinafrica.net) and social media.
- Proposals that incorporate visuals (for example graphics and added text) in the videos will be favoured.
- Subtitles will be necessary in cases where videos are not in English.
- The successful applicant will need to:
- Provide own materials and equipment (cameras, software etc).
- Source their own interviewees or participants.
- Propose a comprehensive content plan for the video series (the series should be a minimum of 105 minutes in length, divided into different videos).
- Meet regularly with the MIAF team for the purpose of providing updates on progress and other strategies.
- Deliver within set deadlines. The general production time will be two months commencing 1 February 2020.
The working budget will be €14 000.
