Call for applications: For the Public Good arts programme in the UK
For the Public Good (FTPG) is calling on artists interested in how technology could be used to benefit their communities to generate climate change solutions to apply for its programme.
FTPG is an international online programme for five artists who want to work with their local community and an academic researcher from the University of Leeds to mark the LEEDS Year of Culture 2023 initiative. It is an experimental, collaborative project developed by LEEDS 2023, the British Council, and the University of Leeds’ Horizons Institute and Cultural Institute.
Requirements
- The artists will need to create unique artistic propositions on how technology can be used to help communities understand climate change issues that could potentially be implemented globally.
- Applicants can include musicians, theatre makers, painters, authors, performance artists, sculptors, actors, digital artists and any other form of artistic practitioners interested in how technology could be used to benefit their community to generate climate change solutions.
- The five international artists will be paired with researchers from the University of Leeds. Each artist and academic will have a shared interest in climate justice and collaborate remotely with the goal of sharing their ideas to representatives of international community groups, local to each of the artists.
- The project will create international connections, share cultural learning and expertise, and find ways of sharing research about climate change through art and creativity. Academics and artists enter the experience on an equal footing and the agenda for their sessions is set by both the artist and academic.
- Artists based in the following African countries can apply: Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
