Call for applications: Sama Music Campus programme in Sudan
Goethe-Institut in Khartoum, Sudan, is accepting applications for its Sama Music Campus programme in 2020 and 2021.
The programme was launched last year with the support of the German Foreign Office, the Global Music Academy (GMA) and the European Union National Institutes for Culture.
It is aimed at building capacity of creatives working in the field of music, including musicians, sound and lighting technicians as well as event and festival managers.
This call is specifically designed for sound engineers and festival managers who wish to learn critical aspects of the music business to improve their careers.
The programme will select 30 participants to receive practical training after the COVID-19 pandemic is under control. The programme will include a one-week intensive workshop. The camp will collaborate with New Spaces, a project by the Goethe-Institut supported by the German Federal Foreign Office to provide spaces for collaboration and discourse.
The workshop trainers are Luc and Santrick Mayitoukou, founders of Zhu Culture in Senegal.
The training on festival management will tackle the following:
- An overview of the field of organising events.
- How to plan the logistical and technical aspects of any event.
- Tools used to manage event security, safety and environmental issues.
- Internal management and documentation.

The training on live sound will tackle the following:
- Basics of sound.
- Sound parameters.
- Various sound system tools.
- Stage and technical preparation.

Interested participants should note the following:
- The workshop will be in English.
- The trainer will carry some sessions of the programme online via Zoom.
- The work will be collective and interactive.
- Full attendance is mandatory.
- A meal will be provided daily.
- The trainee must come at his expense to the place of the workshop.
- Preference will be given to female applicants.
The application deadline is 1 October 2020.
