Call for applications: Shoko Festival
Organisers of the Shoko Festival in Zimbabwe are inviting artists to apply for the seventh edition of the annual event, which will be held from 29 September to 2 October in Harare.
Event organisers broke the news on Facebook: “What's happening peeps? Don't forget to apply for Shoko 2017. Let's have a dope festival.”
Festival coordinator Natalie Kombe also told local publication NewsDay that artists should download and fill in application forms from the festival’s website.
“We are calling for artists who are interested to participate at this year’s edition of Shoko Festival to register for participation,” she said. “Applications will be closing end of May. Regarding our call for artists, it is important for them to send links of their work with the applications.”
Kombe said this year’s festival would usher in a lot of surprises. “We always try to improve on the previous year. We have many ideas that we want to achieve at this year’s edition, so people can look forward to some new additions,” she said.
“Our motto is Onwards and Upwards. We have a dedicated team, who believe in the importance of festivals such as Shoko, so we always do our best to ensure that the show must go on.”
Last year, South African rapper AKA headlined the event. He was joined by Zimbabwean artists Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Ammara Brown, Tehn Diamond and Q The Boss.
Shoko is fast becoming one of the biggest festivals in the country and has featured big acts such as Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Blak Twang (UK), Bucie (South Africa), Silvastone (UK), Tony Rebel (Jamaica), Akala (UK) and Symbiz Sound (Germany).
