Call for auditions: Amazing Voices competition in SA

The show will run for 13 weeks until 5 April and seeks to unearth unsigned music groups across three genres: gospel, pop and R&B.

Contestants from such countries as Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa will compete for the grand prize of R1.5 million ($100 000).

Auditions are underway and have been completed in Zimbabwe, Kenya and Ghana. The remaining auditions will be held in Durban and Johannesburg.

M-Net said in a statement: “If you don’t pre-register online and secure your place, you can still attend the mass audition. However, there is limited audition time on the day and no guarantee that you will be able to audition.”

The venue and dates for the remaining auditions in South Africa are as follows:

• Durban Conference Centre – 25 and 26 October (8am – 3pm).
• Joburg Theatre – 28 and 29 October (8am – 3pm).

About Amazing Voices

Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices is a pan-African singing reality competition show in which 12 unsigned groups from three genres take to the stage to captivate audiences and judges and claim their $100 000 prize money and be crowned Africa’s Amazing Voices. On the Amazing Voices stage, battles are fought and won first by decisions made by groups and then performances they put up.

The show will see celebrity selectors from each of the four countries selecting three groups from each genre after mass auditions to steer them through the elimination round before the winning group is chosen. The show will kick off with mass auditions then shortlisted groups will advance to the home ground battle, which will be the elimination stage. After the elimination phase, three groups will advance to the grand stage where they will sing it out to win the main prize, in Johannesburg.

The show will be broadcast on Mzansi Magic, Mzansi Wethu, Africa Magic, Maisha Magic East and Zambezi Magic at 6pm Kenyan time and 5pm South African time.
