The festival aims to celebrate Africa through music and the diversity of African cultural expressions, which gave birth to various music forms and cultures across the world.
Interested artists can submit entries via WhatsApp on +263 712 216 054 and the Pan African Mbira Festival official Facebook page. The deadline for submission is 15 August.
In a statement, the organisers said the festival is a platform where Africans can, in their own voices and digital spaces, showcase their work, discover and collaborate with each other.
“Internationally, African musical instruments like the balafon, djembe, kora, mbira, nyatiti and udu, are making a noticeable global imprint on the music diets of many cultures," Pan African Mbira Festival said. "Sadly, most of this growth is occurring and mostly being leveraged outside the continent.”
Applicants can submit music performances, new music compositions, interpretations and collaborations, audio visual exhibitions, dance videos, photo exhibitions and podcasts. Artists can also send their own project(s) in the country that they feel needs the attention of the organisers.
“Each audio-visual material must not be longer than ten minutes. Three to five minutes will be the ideal length. Radio and podcast submissions can be in their normal length.”
