Call for registration: Global Toronto 2020
Global Toronto 2020 (GT20) is calling on musicians and music professionals from across the globe to register for its virtual event between 27 and 31 July.
The COVID-19 health crisis caused the GT20 organisers to cancel the in-person event and offer a virtual alternative.
This edition will be held under the theme Acknowledging Opportunity, Envisioning the Future and guarantees the attendees networking opportunities in a more intimate setting.
GT20 has programmed 20 musicians including Canadian group Okavango African Orchestra and Canada-based Senegalese musician Zal Sissokho.
"Twenty artists, representing a wide range of what Canada sounds like, were selected to showcase by a jury of five music professionals. With a pivot to an online event, these artists will be highlighted not through showcases, but in different ways," GT20 said.
Music experts from around the world will take part in several panels to discuss topics isuch as The Role of Protest Music in 2020, Cause + Effect: Artist as Architect of Change, Monetising Lyrics, Has Capitalism Failed the Music Community? and Planning Your Next Release: Promotion and Distribution.
"GT20 is a platform for connecting export-ready artists and professionals from across the country and around the world through showcase performances. It's a gathering place to dig into the issues and opportunities faced on all sides of the stage," GT20 says.
The edition is organised in partnership with the DOADOA performing arts market (Uganda), Folk Alliance International, CD Baby (US), Music Connect Asia, and Batuki Music Community (Canada), among others.
