Call for remixes: Make Your House Funk Again contest

The song was released on 30 October and is a funky slice of upbeat house inspired by the singer’s love for African music and culture.

How to participate

To be part of the contest, interested artists should visit Ain TheMachine’s website and follow the instructions. 

After remixing the song, they should send it to ainthemachineremix@gmail.com and include their full names and social media profile(s) in the body of the email.

The deadline for submissions is 3 December.

“African music has been at the core of my musical formation, but because I was born in Brazil, the physical distance to Africa always made it difficult to connect with the artists there,” Ain TheMachine said. “Now thanks to the Internet, this is not a barrier any more and I’m so excited about this opportunity to connect with African producers.

“’Make Your House Funk Again’ for me is like a mantra, a positive attitude towards these crazy days we are living in and I can’t wait to see your perspective and interpretation of this song.”

‘Make Your House Funk Again’ is available for streaming and download here and is off Ain TheMachine’s upcoming album Naked on The DanceFloor, which is set for release in 2021. In the video, the Berlin-based electronic live performer employs his body and other unexpected objects to produce a pulsating beat, which is overlaid by his vocals that mimic a quartet.

“I actually don't know how relevant my music is for the African audience and this is why I am starting this conversation with them,” Ain TheMachine told Music In Africa. “But I do believe in the deep connections between the African audience and the essential elements of the music that I love and do.

“When I say African music, I'm talking about the African presence all over the world. I grew up in Brazil and every Sunday morning I’d wake up to my father listening to samba, partido alto, chorinho and other Afro-Brazilian music. As a teenager in Brazil, you receive a big influence from North America, in my case going from jazz to techno. Then I started to study percussion and discovered Afro-Latin music. Finally, I was privileged enough to get on a plane and go to Africa to experience the culture directly from its source.”

Ain TheMachine’s love for African music has seen him perform at the 2019 Bushfire Festival in eSwatini as well as in Egypt and Morocco.
