COVID-19: Ballantine’s to bolster Boiler Room collectives with cash
Scottish whiskey brand Ballentine’s yesterday announced that it had injected £100 000 (about $125 000) into community-driven collectives that will feature on Boiler Room's Streaming Isolation series during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The fund, which is the first initiative introduced among others, will strive to support the affected global music community during the coronavirus crisis. Ballentine’s will give £5 000 each to 20 collectives.
Each group will be given the discretion to distribute, as it feels best, the allocated funds within its community to support those most in need.
Starting today, a collective will be announced every week and livestreamed on Ballantine's and Boiler Room's channels. Those interested can visit boilerroom.tv.
The weekly takeovers will also feature sets and performances curated by the groups, which will be broadcast from the artists’ homes.
The Streaming From Isolation series has already featured DJs such as The Black Madonna, Mall Grab and Sippin' T.
With the new initiative, Boiler Room and Ballentine’s advance their efforts to support communities. Last year, they launched the global True Music Fund that sought to provide financial aid to music communities in Spain and South Africa.
Meanwhile, Boiler Room recently postponed its festival in Johannesburg, South Africa, which was set to take place on 25 April.
