Davido conquers MTV EMAs

Davido ran for the Best African Act Award alongside Babes Wodumo (South Africa), C4 Pedro (Angola), Nasty C (South Africa), Nyashinski (Kenya) and Wizkid (Nigeria).

He upstaged fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid who won the Best West African Artist Award, for which Davido was also a nominee, at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in Lagos, Nigeria, on the same day.

Sunday's two EMAs have put Davido’s trophy count at 31 since he broke into the music industry in 2012. The US-born singer has also become the third artist to win both the Best African Act Award at the BET Awards and the  EMAs. D'banj and 2Baba are the only other artists who have accomplished this feat. 

Davido did not attend the EMAs due to the Angolan leg of his 30 Billion World Tour on Saturday.

It has been a successful year for Davido. He made the Forbes Most Bankable Artists in Africa list at No 8 in May, and became the most followed African celebrity on Instagram with a remarkable 5.2 million followers.

His YouTube videos have also achieved resounding success. ‘Fall’ has garnered 33.8 million views since June and ‘If’ is sitting on 50.2 million since its release in February. On Saturday he released the video for ‘FIA’, which already has more than 700 000 views.
