Digital content platforms for Kenyan artists launched
New digital products for consumers and people doing work in arts, culture and technology have been launched. The Airtel Jam Sessions, a music show, and Airtel Future Shapers, that will be a written story on innovative young Kenyans, by Airtel, one of Kenya’s largest telecommunication, was launched on 10 August in Nairobi.
“We are interested in working with quality content producers as we continue to engage and service our customers,’ said Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefil. ‘We are therefore committed to promote local content that will help us empower people in the community by providing them with the right tools and platforms for them to succeed in achieving their potential.’
Airtel Jam Sessions is an intimately shot show that invites budding music artists to jam and talk about their work. For the initial show Airtel has worked with the afro pop duo of Amos and Josh, all Kenyan girl group Kiu, gospel trio of S.O.C band and Dandora music among other artists on this project and will continuously develop more content and opportunities to showcase burgeoning and exciting young talent.
This is the second time Airtel Kenya is developing projects that aim at promoting the Kenyan music industry. In 2014, the company partnered with one of France’s popular music channel, TRACE Urban, for first mobile song competition ‘Airtel Trace Music Stars’ to unlock Africa’s musical talent. After months of mentorship and competition Benjamin Webi was crowned Kenya’s winner of the three-month music competition.
The content will be held on the company’s blog, Airtel Hadithi, as a central portal, where the company will share entertainment content.
