Fatoumata Diawara embarks on album tour
To promote her latest album Fenfo, Malian musician Fatoumata Diawara will be going on a tour of multiple cities in Europe, the US and Canada.
To start off the tour, Diawara will visit Vancouver in Canada on 20 March. To close the tour, she will perform at Moissac in France on 14 June. Other cities to experience the Fenfo tour in between those dates include Seattle, Quebec, Zurich, Munich, Boston and Paris.
Diawara shared news of the tour on social media. “See you at l'Olympia De Paris on 10 May,” she wrote in French. “And here are the dates confirmed for the year!"
Since its release in May last year, Fenfo has received critical acclaim. The Guardian called the album “a classy affair that demonstrates her impressive musical range” and a song from the album was included in The New York Times’s Best Songs List for 2018.
The album ended up receiving a Grammy nomination in the Best World Music Album category. The album was also nominated for a Victoires de la Musique Award in France.
Following her tour of Europe and the US, Diawara will perform at the famous Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, which will take place from 26 to 30 June. Also performing at the event are British band The Cure and American band The Killers as well as solo acts Janet Jackson and Stormzy.
According to a poster released recently, this year the revered festival will host only two African acts: Fatoumata Diawara and South Africa’s BCUC.
