Ghana: Paapa Versa shares new single Lights Go Dim
Ghanaian singer and producer Paapa Versa today announced the release of his new single ‘Lights Go Dim’ featuring rapper KooKusi. The record, which heralds his third studio album Versa Villa, is available for streaming and download across all digital platforms.
A soulful self-produced rendering, ‘Lights Go Dim’ offers a message of hope for all dreamers. “A sentence can change a life. A song can ginger a tired heart. This song is for anyone struggling to smile after being deeply wounded by someone’s words, or simply trying to recover a joy they once had,” Paapa Versa said.
The song’s accompanying video, directed by MRCMulti.me, depicts both artists struggling to pursue their dreams while fighting their inner demons.
Paapa Versa described working with KooKusi, who has chalked impressive milestones since the release of his groundbreaking debut EP 5 Foot 3 last year, as a breeze. “Kofi had apparently been emailing me as a fan for years, and one of his emails caught my attention in 2021,” he said. “After building a friendship over the course of a year and connecting over our mutual passion for purpose-driven music, it made all the sense in the world to feature him on this song!
On Versa Villa, which is due on 17 February, Paapa Versa said: “The vision for the album is to affirm my commitment to making authentic and versatile music for my audience. But larger than that, it’s an appeal to every dreamer to never stop chasing their calling”.
Born Edwin Paapa hMensa, Paapa Versa enjoys widespread fame across the Ghanaian alternative music scene, boasting a unique sound that has landed him collaborations with notable colleagues such as M.anifest, Efya and King Promise, among others. His other latest offerings include ‘Call You Mine’ and ‘Old Wineskins’.
