Ghana: Yaw Appiah releases Nende single
US-based Ghanaian producer Yaw Appiah today released his new single ‘Nende’ featuring Kenyan singer Idd Aziz. The record is available for download and streaming across major digital music stores.
‘Nende’ was released on independent label Alema Music Group and follows the producer's debut album Ubomi, which arrived in November last year.
The track fuses kwaito, tribal, deep and soulful house music, and listens as an optimistic dive into the positive things the future holds.
Appiah told Music In Africa that the song was inspired by an “internal desire to see people globally be free and dance, especially after a tough year of the pandemic. It’s been a joy for me to reconnect with individuals through sounds.”
According to the musician,‘Nende’ will expose his community and beyond to the diverse sound of African music. “I want individuals of all backgrounds to be able to connect to this song deeply by feeling a sense of happiness and peace,” he said.
“No matter what you’ve been through, life is a never-ending journey,” Appiah said of the song’s theme. “Focus on following your God-given path, even if the people around you decide to not follow, change towards you, or stay stagnant. Idd Aziz uses his native language Swahili to reveal that he is following his blessings, that he is following his future, and if the ones around him want to stay in this lonely place, he will leave them behind to continue his journey to a brighter future.”
Appiah described collaborating with Idd Aziz as an honour. “I’ve always followed his journey as an artist and his portfolio speaks for itself. His captivating vocals and chants on ‘Nende’ make this release a special one.”
Despite being from Tema in Ghana, a foreign location to Afro-house and amapiano, Appiah says he is humbled by the reception of his sound.
