Ghana’s Gyakie is latest Apple Music Africa Rising artist
Apple Music has announced Ghanaian singer Gyakie as its latest Africa Rising artist.
The Afro-fusion act joins notable musicians like Omah Lay, Tems, Amaarae, Ayra Starr, Yaw Tog and Nikita Kering, among others, in the artist development programme and companion playlist that spotlights the next generation of African superstars.
Apple Music selects six artists every year to receive a minimum two months’ editorial support across the streaming platform, including a launch interview with Nadeska on Apple Music 1 radio. Nadeska has launched a new weekly Africa Rising feature on her show highlighting the hottest new artists on the continent.
“I’m so excited to be sharing the music I made all the way from Ghana to the global stage and grateful to Apple Music for being a huge part of my journey so far,” Gyakie said. “I’m honoured to play my part in widening the global African story.”
The daughter of Ghanaian highlife legend Nana Acheampong of the Lumba Brothers group, Gyakie is behind successful singles including ‘Love Is Pretty’ (2019) and ‘Never Like This’ (2019). Her debut EP Seed (2020) featured the breakout single ‘Forever’. An Omah Lay-assisted remix of the song was released in 2021.
Gyakie is due to release her sophomore EP My Diary on 22 July. The project is heralded by the single ‘Something’ and Apple Music says the project “reinforces her knack for merging multiple genres seamlessly, from the jazz lounge-esque opener ‘Audience’, to the Afrobeats-rooted ‘My Baby’.”
The latest music from Gyakie, along with that of Africa’s hottest new artists, is available now on the Apple Music Africa Rising playlist.
