Maroon 5’s PJ Morton to join Idols SA finale
American Grammy-winning R&B artist and Maroon 5 member PJ Morton will perform at the finale of Idols SA Season 19 as a guest mentor for the top four contestants on 14 October.
Morton will coach the contestants not only for their stage performance but on their overall goals to become recording artists – imparting wisdom and sharing his journey to becoming a four-time Grammy Award winner.
“I’m looking forward to connecting with and mentoring these young artists who have a bright future ahead of them,” Morton said. “I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to bring something different to my segment. I’m excited for my live shows in South Africa. I’ve been wanting to connect with my fanbase there for a while. My Idols performance will be something special for my day ones.”
Morton’s Idols announcement forms part of the work he will be doing with artists and musicians from across the African continent. It comes ahead of his inaugural South Africa tour to Cape Town and Johannesburg on 6 and 13 October, where he will perform with his 12-piece band.
In anticipation of his live shows, music lovers can indulge in the recent release of Watch The Sun Live: The Mansion Sessions (watch below), as Morton continues his now cherished tradition of celebratory and communal live albums.
Combining both the orchestral elements of his Grammy-winning Gumbo Unplugged with the intimacy of The Piano Album, The Mansion Sessions was similarly captured alongside friends, collaborators and fans all together in one room, and in continuous take. The record delivers new arrangements of songs from 2022’s Watch The Sun, which earned Morton his sixth consecutive year of Grammy nominations.
Tickets to PJ Morton’s Cape Town and Johannesburg concerts can be purchased here and here.
