MTV Video Music Awards to air in over 170 countries
The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) will be broadcast in more than 170 countries on 28 August, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana, among other African countries.
The VMAs will be aired across MTV’s linear and digital platforms, reaching more than 420 million households. The event will be held at New Jersey’s famed Prudential Center and will include performances and a fan-filled audience to celebrate the biggest stars in music.
The 2021 MTV VMAs were held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn where Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid won the Best Cinematography Award for his collaboration on Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’. Big winners on the night included Lil Nas X, Justin Bieber and Olivia Rodrigo.
“We are thrilled to be back in New Jersey for this year’s VMAs live from Prudential Center,” Paramount president of talent, music programming and events Bruce Gillmer said. “Our 2019 show in Newark was undoubtedly one of our biggest and most successful shows yet and we’re excited to bring back the incredible fan energy for one of music’s most anticipated and iconic nights.”
Prudential Center president Jake Reynolds said: “We could not be more excited to host one of the entertainment industry’s most celebrated award shows and recognise the industry’s brightest stars, while adding to the rich history of music in New Jersey.”
