About 20 participants from Tanzania will be trained in repairing and building, as well as the commercialisation of musical instruments in Africa.
As a collaboration between the Music In Africa Foundation, Goethe-Institut Tanzania, the Dhow Countries Music Academy, Music Mayday and Action Music Tanzania, the workshop will cover instruments such as the qanun and guitar and will also provide knowledge on instrument building and the business side of the craft.
Experienced professionals, including Accley Mwalusamba, Said Bhai, Gyavira Kamara and Isack Wazir, will be the facilitators. Hilda Kiel, the director of Music Mayday, will moderate the workshop.
The workshop is in line with the vision of the Music In Africa Foundation to support the African music sector through the exchange of information and skills. During the workshop participants will also be introduced to the Music In Africa portal (www.musicinafrica.net), a pan-African information and exchange portal dedicated to the African music sector.
Music In Africa is an initiative by the Siemens Stiftung together with the Goethe-Institut and numerous partners from across Africa.
