Nigerian artists up for NRJ Music Awards in France
Nigerian artists Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, CKay and Rema have been shortlisted for this year’s NRJ Music Awards (NMAs) slated for the Palais de Festivals in Cannes, France, on 18 November.
Now in its 24th edition, the awards presented by French radio station NRJ celebrate outstanding feats in French pop culture and beyond.
This year, awards will be presented in 18 categories, including Francophone Female Artist of the Year and Francophone Male Artist of the Year, International Collaboration of the Year, International Song of the Year, International Clip of the Year and Social Hit, among others.
The West African musicians, among the leading names in Afrobeats, will battle it out in an assortment of categories spanning song and artist groupings.
Propped by his global hit ‘Calm Down’, whose remix features US singer Selena Gomez, Rema leads Africa’s contingent at the awards, earning nominations in the International Revelation of the Year, International Collaboration of the Year and International Song of the Year categories.
Burna Boy is up for International Revelation of the Year, while CKay’s ‘Emiliana’ was nominated for the Social Hit award. Fireboy DML’s ‘Peru’ featuring Ed Sheeran was shortlisted for International Collaboration of the Year.
Meanwhile, French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura scored a nod for Francophone Female Artist of the Year.
