Nigerian singer WurlD shares Sarafina video
Nigerian singer WurlD has shared the video of his new single ‘Sarafina’, which is available for streaming and download on all major digital streaming platforms.
‘Sarafina’ is the second track from his forthcoming Don’t Get Used To This EP, due in November. It follows ‘Location’, which reunited WurlD with Afrobeats producer Sarz, whom he collaborated with on the 2019 joint EP ILGWT (I Love Girls With Trobul).
The song showcases WurlD’s distinctive Afro-soul sound, addressing new love over a whimsical, addictive rhythm co-produced by the singer Olaleye ‘Drizz’ Toluwani. The accompanying video, shot in Los Angeles, US, by director Liam Hoops, also features a snippet of WurlD’s next single, ‘Sare’.
Don’t Get Used To This tracks WurlD’s evolution as a singer, songwriter and producer. At the same time, it’s his most rhythmically consistent project to date, steeped in the distinctive pulse of Lagos, Nigeria, where he’s recently returned to live. The EP is his inaugural release under Addictive Content, a new imprint he’s created to shine a light on the future sounds and the next generation of African talent.
“Don’t Get Used To This is a love project centred on embracing the present moment,” WurlD said. “We immerse ourselves in the depth of feelings and emotions experienced in the here and now, without dwelling on the past or anticipating the future. While this love is undeniably enchanting, we remember that tomorrow remains uncertain. Enjoy these sounds but don’t get used to this.”
Born and raised in Lagos, but based in the US, WurlD straddles the worlds of Afrobeats and R&B. Since bursting onto the Afrobeats scene with 2016’s ‘Show You Off’ alongside Walshy Fire and Shizzi, he has continued to evolve his sound across a steady stream of releases.
He is credited for penning tracks for and collaborating with artists like B.O.B., Akon, Mario and Davido. It was for the latter that he co-wrote 2019’s ‘Blow My Mind’ featuring Chris Brown. One of the most successful fusions of Afrobeats and R&B, with over 90 million YouTube views and close to 200 million streams, ‘Blow My Mind’ has been recognised for setting a new standard for collaborations between African and American artists.
