Nigeria’s Patoranking to perform in Uganda
Nigerian reggae-dancehall singe Patoranking will perform at the Wilmer concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, Uganda, on 25 October 2019.
Local musicians who have been confirmed to perform at the concert include Vinka, Cindy, Gravity Omutujju, Big Trill, Bennie Gunter, and John Blaq. The event will also feature top DJs Sesse, Naselow, Cisse, Fem, Kasbaby, Albreezy, Mackus and Irakoze.
The concert has been organised by events company Evoke Uganda in partnership with XFM and Ubuntu Connect, a platform that brings together creatives under the topic Creative Talks to discuss issues affecting the creative sector.
“It’s been a long time coming prepping for this show,” Evoke Uganda’s lead curator, Timothy Bukenya, said. “My team and I have equipped ourselves with well-suited sponsors, partners and service providers to enable us to put on a show for the ages.
"Aside from the main show, there is a meet and greet at Thrones and an afterparty in the works. There’s a lot to look forward to this October.”
Ubuntu Connect co-founder Blessing Bekunda said: “We are excited to finally see this through and host Patoranking in our beautiful country for the concert. The fans have been eagerly waiting. Thanks to Patoranking and team for the mutual love and cooperation they have extended to us over the year.”
Patoranking’s debut album God Over Everything, released in 2016, introduced Ugandan audiences to his style of music delivered in Nigerian pidgin. Since then, he has collaborated with various local musicians, most notably Fik Famaika on ‘Omu Bwati’, Jose Chameleone on ‘Only You’ and Eddy Kenzo on ‘Royal’.
The singer is up for the Album of the Year in Africa accolade at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards for his sophomore album, Wilmer. The 12-track album was released in May 2019 and features Kenya’s Nyashinski, South Africa’s Busiswa and fellow Nigerian musician Davido.
