SA: AKA releases three new tracks
South African musician AKA has released three new singles titled 'Monument', 'Energy' and 'Cross My Heart'.
After announcing the news earlier this week, the Megacy (AKA's fans) has been anticipating songs with bated breath. The hip hop sensation has kept his fans thirsty by not releasing new music for some time. In the meantime, the ‘Fela in Versace’ hitmaker had attracted much criticism from fans on social media following his debacle with media personality and businessman Sizwe Dhlomo.
The three tracks are now available on all popular music streaming platforms and below.
On ‘Monument’ AKA features mixing grandmaster Ready D and frequent collaborator and long-time friend Yanga Chief, with whom he raps about the misgivings of staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also takes a look back at why he got into hip hop, juxtaposing his memories with his current position on the scene.
The nostalgic ‘Energy’ takes familiar ears back in time with a sample from the popular '90s house classic 'Summer Daze' by Nick Holder. The mid-tempo song fuses house undercut with modern trap elements overlaid with a stellar hook from Gemini Major.
The infectious 'Cross My Heart' is steeped in emotions and an '80s groove, which AKA seals with his signature style. Here he raps about a mysterious woman who seems to be the central cause of his sanity during this time.
AKA has been busy lately. He recently launched his subscription app AKA TV, which features exclusive music previews, behind the scenes footage, live performances and documentaries.
