SA: Apple Music features Nanette in Up Next programme
South African R&B singer and songwriter Nanette has been added to Apple Music’s Up Next programme.
The announcement coincides with the release of her nine-track debut album Bad Weather. The offering, which features standout songs such as ‘Vent’, ‘Same Mistake’ and ‘Dream Girl’, is available for streaming on Apple Music in Spatial Audio.
As the latest Up Next artist to be spotlighted in South Africa, Nanette will be featured across Apple Music’s Up Next playlist.
“Being selected for Apple Music Up Next is nothing short of a dream,” Nanette said. “Being able to shape the future I want to see using my reach and music has been such a beautiful experience and to be recognised for that in any way is humbling. Music will forever be the healing force and a universal language. Huge shout-out to Apple for all the love.”
Nanette’s partnership with talent manager and businessman Rich Mahogany led her to work with Lee Global, which ultimately led to a record deal Universal Music South Africa and features on Una Rams’ ‘Rendezvous’ and Lordkez’s ‘Handmedowns’.
Nanette began working on Bad Weather during South Africa’s first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. On the album, the Durban-born singer utilises a refined 1990s R&B sound with influences from the soulful voices of music greats like Nina Simone, Jhené Aiko, Etta James and Janet Jackson.
