SA: Audition for Dr Tumi’s band
South African gospel singer Dr Tumi is inviting young vocalists for auditions ahead of his Gathering of Worshippers concert on 1 September at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria.
The auditions will be held at the Bassline in Johannesburg on 11 and 12 July.
The Gathering of Worshippers concert will serve as a launching pad for new talent. The call is open to male and female vocalists who live in Gauteng or those who are willing to relocate to the province.
Requirements
- Artists should be aged between 20 and 35 years.
- Hopefuls are expected to perform one song in front of a panel led by Dr Tumi.
- Only 12 vocalists are needed to form part of Dr Tumi’s band.
“The gospel hitmaker has heeded the call to open up the industry to young talent and to create opportunities for musicians who may otherwise never get a chance to show off their talent,” Dr Tumi’s team said.
Dr Tumi told Music In Africa that the call was designed to recognise young artists and expose them to the world.
“The idea is to get real people, talent and open new opportunities to upcoming artists," he said. "We all know how difficult it is for doors to open for young people in our country. This is my modest contribution to showcase the talent that may be sitting idle at home and I wish youngsters who have what it takes to jump on this opportunity."
“We are looking for 12 vocalists who will also take part in the recording of the Beauty of Ashes DVD on 4 September.”
Dr Tumi said the 12 vocalists would work interchangeably on shows in South Africa and abroad.
"Who knows, perhaps this is the breakthrough they may have been praying for. So I'm inviting all to come along and meet me and the team and show us what you have," he said.
Tickets to the Gathering of Worshippers concert are available via Computicket.
