SA: DJ Supta signs with Warner Music Africa
South African DJ and radio host Supta has signed a recording deal with Warner Music Africa (WMA).
The deal was reached ahead of the release of his single ‘Emathandweni’ featuring long-time collaborators Thalitha and Jim MasterShine on 7 July.
On his signing with WMA, Supta said: “I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been making music for quite some time and for the first time, I feel at home.”
WMA creative lead Garth Brown said: “We are so proud and excited to collaborate with Supta on the new music he has been working on. The upcoming project justifies his long silence, the music was worth the wait.”
After ‘Emathandweni’, Supta will release an EP later this year with guest appearances from local artists Peekay Mzee, Thalitha, Jim MasterShine and Basetsana, among others.
‘Emathandweni’ is a futuristic Afro-tech Xhosa love tune that precedes ‘Khuleka’ featuring Basetsana. ‘Khuleka’ is a reimagination of Josh Groban’s classic ‘Remember When It Rained’ and touches on Supta’s dedication to making music that inspires. The song is already making waves on TikTok and amassed over 617K views so far.
