SA: Limpopo Music Awards voting still under way
The second edition of the Limpopo Music Awards (LIMA) will be held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World in Polokwane, South Africa, on 15 September.
Some of the artists who are expected to perform at the event are King Monada, Winnie Mashaba, Candy Tsa MaNdebele and Pastor Lungi Ndala. They will be joined by Benny Mayengani, L’wei Netshivhale, Ntsikwane, Mash Sarila, Lekkersweet and Daniel Marven.
“We look forward to welcoming the whole of South Africa at this proudly Limpopo celebration," LIMA founder Fortune Maswanganyi said. "Come see the crown jewels of our province and indeed the country. Good luck to all our nominees."
Sponsored by local sorghum brand King Korn, the awards promote local music and affords artists a platform to realise themselves.
“King Korn understands that the heartbeat of Africa can be heard in our music. LIMA offers South Africans a unique opportunity to sample our diverse music as the title sponsor of the 2018 Limpopo Music Awards,” LIMA said. “King Korn is putting its strength in supporting the very best Limpopo has to offer. LIMA celebrates our local music artists and seeks to promote their talent by helping them to create, develop and build sustainable music careers.
The awards are open to musicians who are born or reside in Limpopo with 15 categories to choose from. Music genres such as gospel, rap/hip hop, Afro-pop, R&B, soul, reggae, kwaito and jazz are also recognised along with technical talent such as producers and DJs.
“LIMA honours the rich heritage of the province including Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Group/Duo/Collaboration and other categories which celebrate music from indigenous languages spoken in Limpopo such as Sepedi, TshiVenda, XiTsonga and Khilobedu.”
Meanwhile, the organisers have released a list of nominees for this year's awards. Each nominee has a number and readers can vote for their favourite artists by sending an SMS to 47052. The voting deadline is 14 September.
