
SA: NAC interim CEO Julie Diphofa retains IFACCA deputy chair role
The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) has announced the re-election of its interim CEO, Julie Diphofa, as deputy chairperson of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA).

The reappointment took place during IFACCA’s 9th General Assembly, held on 27 May 2025 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. This marks Diphofa’s second consecutive term in the role, further cementing her position as a prominent advocate for African cultural leadership on the global stage.
“I am honoured to serve as a representative of an international organisation like IFACCA, and I would like to thank the Board for entrusting me to continue in this role,” Diphofa said. “This opportunity allows me to remain an important voice for African thought leadership and to reinforce South Africa’s role in shaping the arts and culture agenda across the continent.”
IFACCA executive director Magdalena Moreno Mujica, welcomed the newly elected board, which includes regional representatives from across the globe. “We are delighted to have a new Board comprising members from all regional chapters, bringing a wealth of knowledge, skills, and insight to IFACCA’s governance. I am honoured to work with them in the years ahead,” she said.
NAC chairperson Eugene Botha praised Diphofa’s reappointment: “With over 20 years of experience in arts and culture, Ms Diphofa brings invaluable expertise and collaborative leadership. Her continued service as IFACCA deputy chairperson reflects South Africa’s dedication to international cultural cooperation and strengthens Africa’s voice in the global arts community.”
IFACCA is the global network of arts councils, ministries of culture, and government agencies that promote the advancement of arts and culture worldwide. Its members represent over 70 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Pacific.
