SA: Soda Studios to present Mayibuye Youth Day stream
Jazz musician Pops Mohamed and hip hop artist Manu World Star will feature in the Mayibuye Youth Day event, which will be livestreamed on 16 June.
The two artists will be joined by Zetina Mosia, iamsiwas (Jess White) and Babaganoush, among others.
Presented by SA broadcast hub Soda Studios, the event will feature performances and talks with musicians and poets. Soda Studios is a platform aimed at African creatives and producers to disseminate stories through innovative technology.
The show, which will be hosted by renowned South African radio and TV personality Rude Boy Paul (Paul Mnisi), seeks to bring together the voices of artists and commemorate the fallen victims of the Soweto uprising on 16 June 1976.
The historic day, which is now a public holiday in the country, was marked by a series of demonstrations and protests against the adoption of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in black schools.
Led by more than 20 000 black schoolchildren, the tragic day resulted in more than 170 pupils killed by the apartheid regime’s armed forces.
The Mayibuye Youth Day event starts at 12pm CAT and tickets can be secured here.
