Shazam launches East Africa Risers playlist on Apple Music
Apple-owned music discovery and identification app Shazam has launched a new playlist called East Africa Risers on Apple Music for trending and emerging artists in the region.
The playlist can be streamed exclusively on Apple Music and features 40 trending songs on Shazam in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
“Uncover the latest songs heating up Shazam in East Africa right now – the latest releases from the most talked-about artists and the music that’s been lighting up scenes from your favourite movies and TV shows,” the statement reads.
“These are tracks by East Africa’s fast-emerging new artists, a select mix of sounds that reflect the energy and boundless spirit of East Africa. This playlist is updated with new music each week, so if you hear something you like, add it to your library.”
Some of the artists on the playlist include Zuchu, Nandy, Otile Brown, Fik Fameika, Spice Diana, Jay Melody, Harmonize, Ibraah and Damian Soul, among others.
Commenting on the release of the playlist, Nandy said: “I am thrilled to be one of the first artists on the new Shazam East Africa Riser playlist. I want to thank my team and fans for this blessing and endless motivation and support, and Shazam, which is instrumental in helping users find my music at the push of a button.”
East Africa Risers is the first playlist that highlights emerging artists from East Africa on Apple Music and is an addition to Shazam’s other African playlists, including Naija Risers and Mzansi Risers, which were launched last year.
Apple purchased Shazam in 2018 and the app has since gained more than 200 million users worldwide.
