Six SA DJs nominated for Ibiza's DJ Awards
South African DJs Black Coffee, Da Capo, Culoe De Song, Hyenah, Themba and Floyd Lavine are up for awards at the 22nd edition of DJ Awards, in Ibiza, Spain, on 16 September.
Black Coffee is the only African nominated in the International DJ category and is competing against fellow heavyweights Adam Beyer (Sweden), Carl Cox (Britain), Claptone (Germany), Jamie Jones (Wales), Joseph Capriati (Italy), Luciano (Chile/Switzerland), Nina Kraviz (Russia), Paul van Dyk (Germany), Ricardo Villalobos (Chile/Germany), Richie Hawtin (UK/Canada), Seth Troxler (US), Solomun (Bosnia/Germany) and Sven Väth (Germany).
Da Capo, Culoe De Song, Hyenah and Floyd Lavine are nominated in the Afro House category alongside andhim (Germany) and Osunlade (US). Themba is nominated in the Breakthrough category.
The DJs shared their excitement on Facebook.
“I am so grateful for the nomination at the DJ Awards in the Best International DJ [category],” Black Coffee wrote. “None of this would be possible without you.”
“Thank you all for continuously supporting, motivating and inspiring me to be the best I can be,” Themba said.
Da Capo wrote: “This is awesome. Being nominated for Best Afro House DJ by the DJ Awards in Ibiza.”
Floyd Lavine also wrote: “I’ve been nominated for the Best Afro House DJ at this year’s DJ Awards in Ibiza. What an honour to be placed among such talented DJs. Thank you to everyone for your support and for coming on this journey with me.”
The ceremony will be presided by British media personality Des Paul and run under the theme, Plastic No More, “to raise awareness within the dance music industry on how we can find sustainable solutions to eliminate the use of plastic.”
