Stonebwoy shares video for DJ Maphorisa-assisted Apotheke
Ghanaian singer Stonebwoy has shared the video for his single ‘Apotheke’ featuring South African amapiano progenitor DJ Maphorisa.
The record, whose title translates to ‘pharmacy’ in German, blends dancehall and amapiano, and its subject matter revolves around beauty and lust.
“The song is about partying and dancing,” Stonebwoy said. “Imagine spotting a very fine sister in a bougie setting … you can’t wait to watch her blow up the party with her effortless moves in that curvy body.”
On how the collaboration came about, Stonebwoy said: “Maphorisa and I have been friends in the industry for years. I visited him in Sandton [Johannesburg] and we immediately cooked up this contagious song together. He’s the perfect fit as this track fuses amapiano with fresh Afro-dancehall vibes.”
‘Apotheke’ was shot in the streets of London, capturing a lively party with cameos from DJs, artists and dancers. “There’s no better way to represent a dance song that brings people good vibes than through a true life event,” the singer noted.
The video for ‘Apotheke’, off Stonebwoy’s 5th Dimension, arrives a year after the album’s release. Released on Def Jam Africa, the project features big names like Davido, Oxlade, Tiwa Savage, Angélique Kidjo and Shaggy, among others.
“I feel blessed with this body of work, and there’s more to come, such as serving our people and establishing the African sound globally,” Stonebwoy said. “I want South Africa to embrace and enjoy this video just as the world loves it.”
A BET award winner, Stonebwoy has been shortlisted in 15 categories ahead of the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards in Accra on 1 June.
