Superstar reflects Roberto’s great sense of growth

On 9 August Zambian R&B musician Roberto released his fifth album Supersta. Known for his smash hit single ‘Amarula’, many were sceptical Roberto would manage to surpass the success he had accomplished. Supersta is true reflection that the musician is definitely not a one hit wonder.

It is a sweet fusion of RnB and dancehall. The subject matter of Superstar is mostly about the ins and outs of love and relationships.

Featuring tracks such as ‘Into You’, ‘Vitamin U’, ‘One in a Million’ and ‘Find My Way’, the album has appearances from artists such as Patoranking, Jay Rox, Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania) among others.

“Probably the most challenging of all albums I have ever worked on. I nearly gave up on music, but realised this is my calling. When I dreamt of my late sister smiling and saying she was proud of me, I got out of bed and went straight to recording. I don’t know what it is with my dreams, but I never let them end when my eyes open.” Roberto was quoted as saying.

‘Into You’ was the first single to be released from the album. It is a club-ready track with an infectious, easy to sing-along hook. It sets the tone of what fans can expect from the album.

‘Vitamin U’ is undoubtedly a stand out track and an instant classic song that features Vanessa Mdee. The song has a nice laid back mid-tempo beat to it.

“Hello my heart is calling you, can you hear it calling, hello am just wanting you, do you want me too, All I need is my Vitamin U, and you’re my Vitamin U,” Roberto sings in the hook.

With her breath-taking vocals, Vanessa adds some extra spice to the songs – “Maybe you’ve got that magic-magic, maybe I’m just in Love”, she sings.

The ‘Vitamin U’ music video is luring more views on YouTube. Released on 5 November, the video is currently seating at 745 000 YouTube views. It is the first video by a Zambian artist to gain 100 000 views on YouTube in just three days.

Other songs to look out for are dancehall jams ‘Bartender’ featuring Jay Rox and ‘Dear Lavu’. ‘Bartender’ is a sexy seductive party track that will leave all club dance floors packed. In ‘Dear Lavu’, Roberto is appreciating the love he gets from her lover and assures her that no one will replace her.
