TikTok and DistroKid launch integration to support indie artists
Social media app TikTok and American music distribution platform DistroKid have announced a new integration that facilitates the process for independent artists to set up official TikTok Artist Accounts.
This new feature, which aims to build a stronger connection between DistroKid’s artist community and TikTok’s global community of music fans, offers tools designed to help artists engage with fans more effectively on TikTok, a leading platform for music discovery. DistroKid members can now create TikTok Artist Accounts from their DistroKid dashboard, gaining access to features like a Music Tab, New Releases, and Ticketing.
TikTok, owned by ByteDance, has over 1.6 billion monthly active users, while DistroKid, the largest distributor of independent music, estimates it handles 30-40% of global music distribution.
“TikTok is excited to partner with DistroKid to make it even easier for millions of artists to access powerful and easy-to-use tools to fuel their growth on TikTok, drive increased consumption of their music and grow their fanbases,” TikTok global head of music partnership development Jay Bae said.
“It’s now faster than ever for any artist to create their official TikTok Artist Account directly through DistroKid, reducing the process from weeks to just hours,” DistroKid president Phil Bauer added. “Building on our long history of collaboration, DistroKid members now have unique access to tools and features for promoting their music on TikTok’s leading discovery platform.”
Since 2019, DistroKid and TikTok have collaborated to help independent artists upload music to TikTok. DistroKid members have also benefited from the Commercial Music Library (CML), which provides pre-cleared music for TikTok ads. Last year, the companies expanded their collaboration to include millions of tracks on TikTok Music’s beta subscription service. Additionally, DistroKid members’ music is available on ByteDance’s CapCut and can be distributed to TikTok Music through the DistroVid tool.
Recently, TikTok partnered with Eventbrite to allow event creators to promote and sell tickets directly through TikTok. Users can now add Eventbrite links to their TikTok videos, making it easier for the TikTok community to find event details and purchase tickets without leaving the app. This feature is available in all regions where both services operate.
