Top 10 SA house songs of 2019
Its mid-year already, but music fans are still dancing to house songs that were released back at the start of 2019.
Here's a rundown of the best South African house tracks released so far this calendar year. As we move towards year-end, we will keep an eye on any hot releases and update the list.
'Umona' by TNS ft Mpumi
'Umona' is off the Madlokovu King of African House album. The video for the song was released in August and is sitting on more than 1.5 million YouTube views.
'Umlilo' by DJ Zinhle
DJ Zinhle is among the top artists in South Africa's house scene and the industry relies on her for top hits. Released in August, 'Umlilo' is nearing a million YouTube views. Here local singer Mpumi adds energy with her powerful vocals.
'Ngiyesaba' by Simmy
Simmy never disappoints and 'Ngiyesaba' is proof she's good at what she does.
‘Ndibambe’ – Heavy K ft Ntombi
Heavy K is not a stranger to house music. In this video, the 27-year-old artist features the powerful vocals of his wife, Ntombi. ‘Ndibambe’ (loosely translated to 'Hold Me') is a love song whose video shows people partying and dancing to Heavy K's massive beats.
‘Touch’ – Ntombi ft Heavy K
Following a successful collaboration on ‘Ndibambe’, Ntombi and Heavy K once more fused their talents on a powerful house club banger titled ‘Touch’. The love song, whose video hasn’t yet properly hit the market, is gaining much traction on social media and has already found comfort in most South African clubs.
‘Masnemali’ – Dr Malinga ft Trademark
Most house fans generally enjoy Dr Malinga’s spirited dances and the April-released ‘Masnemali’ single deserves visual treatment owing to its powerful beats. ‘Masnemali’ is his second single of the year and features South African singer Trademark.
‘Yebo Mama’ – Heavy K ft Moonchild Sanelly
Heavy K has out-done most house artists in releasing top songs in the first half of the year. The Port Elizabeth-born artist, this time, sought the vocals of South African musician and dancer Moonchild Sanelly. The video features feisty dance moves from Sanelly and other energetic performers.
‘Mfokalanga’ – Mpumi ft Professor
It seems that any song that features Mpumi and Professor turns out to be a knockout. Following the successful release of Heavy K’s ‘Moya’, the duo once more merged their harmonious lyrics on ‘Mfokalanga’. It looks like Mpumi is destined for bigger things, judging by the attention given to her songs.
‘Ndakwenza Ntoni’ – Naak MusiQ & Bluelle
‘Ndakwenza Ntoni’ is a joint song by Naak MusiQ & Bluelle and is off the Ndakwenza Ntoni album. The March-released song is already enjoying a lot of airplay on local radio stations. The music video tells the story of a man who is involved in a sad relationship but cannot let it go.
‘Fetch Your Life’ – Prince Kaybee ft Msaki
‘Fetch Your Life’ is off Prince Kaybee's latest album, Re Mmino, and encourages people to never give up and aim for their goals. The video for the motivational song ends with people who are happy after having achieved their dreams. Released in April, the video ‘Fetch Your Life’ was sitting on more than one million YouTube views at the time of writing.
‘Manqonqo’ – Ngibambe ft DJ Tira and Airic
Following the successful release of ‘Eyadini’, Manqonqo is back with another club banger. Produced by Airic of Ujuu Records, ‘Ngibambe’ is a song every house fanatic would love to play at home, in the car and at a party.
'This Is Love' – Lady Zamar
Lady Zamar rarely disappoints. The video for the song is on point and - at the time of writing - has already racked up more than 209,728 YouTube views following its release on 16 May.
'Skeleton Move' – by Master KG ft. Zanda Zakuza
'Skeleton Move' was actually released in March 2018 but is still enjoying local airplay. The video for the song, which showcases talented Afro-soul singer and songwriter Zanda Zakuza and which featured in our 2018 list, is close to 10 million YouTube views and shows no sign of slowing down.
