Trace to give young Nigerian creators TV opportunity
Popular music channel Trace TV will embark on a tour of seven cities across Nigeria from 17 August to 15 September.
Specifically targeting Nigerian university campuses, the tour, says an official statement, will “bring the channel to her most dedicated fans, youth and the uber cool crowd in a whirlwind campus tour called Trace In The City”.
The tour provides young artists with a chance to connect with Trace and submit videos or skits for a 'Content Festival' that sees the music video station partner with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
A spokesperson for Trace told Music In Africa that the tour would also see the celebrated station pay for movie tickets for hundreds of young people in the cities to be visited, which are Zaria, Abuja, Calabar, Port Harcourt, Benin, Lagos and Ibadan.
During the month-long tour, participants will engage in games and concerts, and get multiple chances to win Indomie and Pepsi product giveaways.
“We decided to embark on this campus tour because the country’s entertainment scene is dominated and consumed by young people and they are eager for opportunities to have their creativity recognised,” said Sam Onyemelukwe, managing director for Trace in Anglophone Africa. “To respond to their aspirations, we partnered with NTA so they can drop their videos and submit content to air on TV.”
The tour will also give young people a chance to see some contemporary artists in concert. The announced acts to feature in these events include Ice Prince, Mayorkun, Reekado Banks, Harrysong, Falz, DJ Neptune, CDQ, MC Galaxy, Classiq, LAX, Teni Entertainer, Dremo, Peruzzi, Idowest, Yonda, Odunsi The Engine, Ceeza Milli and Tjan.
Popular artists in each university visited will get an opportunity to perform before their peers on the Trace stage.
Music In Africa was informed that entries would not be sent online. Instead, for a chance to have one’s content shown on the Trace platform, interested persons in each campus would need to visit a booth set up at the venue for registration and submission of content.
Nonetheless, activities to take place during the tour can be followed online using the #TraceInTheCity hashtag.
