A trio of American musical heavyweights will be the headlining acts at the upcoming Nile Gold Jazz Safari in Kampala, Uganda. They are the RnB star Karyn White and jazz maestros Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright. The concert is slated for Friday 2 October.
This line-up is the culmination of the concert’s commitment to bringing talented and masterful jazz acts from all over the world to Kampala to deliver unforgettable performances and create extraordinary musical experiences.
Founded by Tshaka Mayanja, a reggae singer, songwriter and producer, the Nile Gold Jazz Safari seeks to nurture the creativity and diversity of Jazz music in Uganda. “This edition of the concert is not just important for the causes it supports, but for the milestones it has achieved,” said Tshaka.
Karyn White is best known for her 1988 hit ‘Superwoman’ and is reportedly the first female artist to have her first three solo releases hit No.1 on the American RnB charts.
Gerald Albright is a well-known face at the Nile Gold Jazz Safari, having performed at the same event in the past. The multi-instrumentalist is one of the most awarded and recognized stars in the genre, having sold over one million albums in the USA alone and playing at the inauguration of former US President Bill Clinton.
Saxophonist Kirk Whalum won a Grammy in 2011 for Best Gospel Song, and in June 2014 was the inaugural Jazz Legend honoree of the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, Tennessee.
Besides bringing quality jazz to lovers of the genre in Kampala, Nile Gold Jazz Safari supports various causes, among them improved access to cancer treatment.
