Ugandan star excited about Derulo collab
Ugandan ragga artist Bebe Cool is scheduled to record a song with American singer Jason Derulo as part of a project for Coke Studio Africa.
Bebe Cool could not hide his excitement and took to social media to break the news to his fans with a few pictures of the two artists. He arrived in Nairobi on Friday eager for his recording session with Derulo. The two began rehearsals yesterday at the offices of Coke Studio Africa.
Bebe Cool agreed to be part of this year’s Coke Studio Africa on condition that he is allowed a collaboration with the main act, Derulo. He seems to be taking the bull by its horns, as this collaboration will see him receive $11 126 at the end of the season.
Bebe Cool has previously collaborated with fellow African artists such as Kenya’s Sauti Sol on the recent track ‘Mbozi za Malwa’, ‘My Wife’ with Ghana’s Stonebwoy and ‘Touch’ with Malawian star Tay Grin.
Apart from Bebe Cool, Coke Studio Africa will also be working with Ugandan stars Eddy Kenzo, Sheebah, DJs Roja & Slick Stuart, Ykee Benda and Maurice Kirya.
As announced earlier by Music in Africa, Coke Studio Africa and Coke Studio South Africa have merged into a bigger Coke Studio Africa for this year’s season. The merger increases the number of participating countries to 16 up from 11 in the 2016 edition.
This will be the first time that Derulo will be recording with an East African artist. Derulo, however, has performed in Africa before. In October 2015 he was billed as the main act at the South African of the Year Awards (SATYs), a now defunct awards ceremony owned by the controversial Gupta family. Derulo was later lambasted on Twitter for asking the South African audience whether they spoke English.
