Universal Music Publishing Group launches songwriter royalty app
Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) yesterday announced that it had launched a songwriter royalty app and portal called Royalty Window.
- The Universal Music Publishing Group Royalty Window app is now available for download.
The app, which is now available on iOS and Android platforms, will provide songwriters and users with real-time earnings data and insights. The tool is also accessible through computer devices.
The system uses cloud-indexing technology to provide information and also gives a comprehensive views of song consumption patterns around the world.
“UMPG Window is a testament to our commitment to building and delivering the best, most scalable systems in music publishing,” UMPG executive vice-president of global technology Mark Coltman said.
“Our guiding principle was creating a resource that empowered our songwriters and clients to easily access meaningful, usable and accurate data.”
UMPG says it circulates international income on a quarterly basis to all its affiliates, fast-tracking international revenue to all of its songwriters.
The portal launch also sees the introduction of a new international royalty ‘pipeline’ feature, which enables users to preview and access earnings as they are received around the world.
Royalty Window offers the ability for clients to ask for no-fee advances based on both current period earnings and international pipeline earnings. It is also the only royalty portal to provide comprehensive film and television information.
In 2007, UMPG launched an online royalty portal but, through the Royalty Window app, the publisher seems to be filling a gap that songwriters have needed for some time, also adding the convenience of mobile compatibility.
This is the latest in what could be a trend of major publishers increasingly focusing on behind-the-scenes creators, as last year Sony/ATV also released its own app for songwriters.
