Watch BANTU’s Ká Máa Dúpẹ́ video
BANTU has released the official video to 'Ká Máa Dúpẹ́', the second single off the Nigerian band's debut album Agberos International.
Shot in the southwestern town Abeokuta, capital of Ogun state, the video shows regular people, including kids, interacting with a female singer from the band. The new video comes after the release of Agberos International's first single 'Lagos Barbie'.
"A lot of people appreciated the creativity and work we put into the video for 'Lagos Barbie'," Ade Bantu, the band's lead vocalist told Music In Africa. "With this single, we wanted to showcase the vocal and musical diversity of BANTU. It's important to keep our audience on their toes."
In a statement accompanying the release of the video, BANTU explains the lyrics of the new single.
"The opening line of the first verse sets the tone as BANTU readily admit how difficult it is to be optimistic when it feels like the world is constantly crushing down on you. Themes of loneliness and vulnerability are openly addressed alongside remedial themes of gratitude and resistance as the band shares their personal stories.
"The final verse, sung in Yoruba, is used to invoke the beauty of the language and its deeply positive proverbs and adages that connect to the song’s title 'Ká Máa Dúpẹ́' which translated into English means 'let us be thankful'."
Agberos International was released on 7 July 2017. According to Ade Bantu, fans can look forward to more videos from the debut album. "We are back in the studio working on new material, but we are also looking at releasing two more videos from Agberos International.
In an interview with Music In Africa shortly after the album's release last year, Ade Bantu explained the band's vision. "I just hope that when people are referencing these times, they look in our direction as a sonic reference."
