Seun Kuti, Black Coffee to play Coachella
Seun Kuti and his Egypt 80 band, as well as other African artists, have been announced as some of the acts who will perform at the 2020 edition of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, this April.
The line-up will feature more than 170 artists and will be headlined by Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean. African and diaspora artists at this year's Coachella are Aya Nakamura (Mali/France), Black Coffee (South Africa), Kyle Watson (South Africa), Sampa the Great (Zambia/Australia) and Dave (Nigeria/UK).
The annual event will take place over two consecutive weekends: 10-12 April and 17-19 April.
Seun Kuti, who will perform on 12 and 19 April, shared an image of the line-up on social media with a clip of his performance in 2012 when he became the first Nigerian artist to perform at Coachella.
“We are going going back back to Cali Cali!! Swipe left for the atmosphere the last time we were there eight years ago,” he wrote.
Multiple award-winning South African DJ Black Coffee will play Coachella again after performing at the festival in 2018. His mixes are regular at international festivals, as he has stamped his authority as one of the most sought-after house DJs in the world. He will be joined on the line-up by fellow South African DJ Kyle Watson.
The 2019 edition of Coachella featured Nigeria's Burna Boy and Mr Eazi. The festival was headlined by Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino and Tame Impala, and sold out within hours. Weekend 1 festival tickets for the 2020 edition are sold out and fans can register at coachella.com where they will receive a code for the Weekend 2 pre-sale.
