Denis Larose
Bio
Denis Larose (born on 4 August) is a singer, songwriter and music producer from Curepipe, Mauritius.
Larose learnt how to play the guitar at the age of 14 and he draws inspiration from Belgian rapper Benny B and Bob Marley. His love for music prompted him to start singing at school.
Larose later redirected to R&B, when he heard R&B group Boyz II Men playing on radio. The US group inspired him to write his first song 'Dreaming of You' at the age of 15. At 18, Larose joined an a capella group as a vocal arranger and this enabled him to learn the piano. The group gained fame and began performing at different concerts around the island.
The group later disbanded when some of members left the country. In 1999, Larose participated in the Tremplin singing competition courtesy of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation.
In early 2000, Larose's song 'I Really Do' came second at a singing competition and this prompted a local music company to sign him to perform at several hotels around the island. In 2001, he signed a deal with Wannadoo Production and this inspired him to become an independent artist . Larose later opened a home studio and music label called Ylagam Records, which is credited on the 'Princess Ebony' and 'ACAP' albums.
Four years later, Cassiya Productions, the record label of the band Cassiya, the first Mauritian group to perform at the Olympia in Paris, approached him to produce the 'Enn Zour' album. In 2011, he composed such songs as 'Differens' and 'Sanz Twa'.
In 2012, he was a finalist at the Discoveries Awards organised by RFI following. In 2013, his songs ‘Pourquoi’ and ‘Lévé La Main’ made No 5 on the Radio One charts in his home country. In 2014, he released ‘Kiz You’, a song inspired by his love for kizomba music.
Since then, he has collaborated with Portuguese and Spanish DJs Silvio Luz and 2Dope on ‘Keep On Shining’ (2014) and ‘Aim High’ (2015) respectively. In 2018, he released his first opus in English and Portuguese titled ‘Mais Uma Vez’, a collaboration that features Portugal-based Mozambican artist Fleep Beatz.
