Nigeria: Obesere releases coronavirus song
Nigerian Fuji singer Abas Akande Obesere has released a single titled 'Coronavirus Becareful'.
The release comes days after the remix of his 2002 track 'Egungun Be Careful' with Zlatan Ibile.
'Coronavirus Becareful' talks about personal hygiene and acts as a warning about the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted almost all sectors of life around the world.
The controversial artist gained popularity in the early 1990s with his explicit style of Fuji music. His music, delivered in the Yoruba language, is well known in Nigeria for its catchy beats and ability to get people dancing.
Obesere's live performances are unique and impressive. He has collaborated with artists including Olamide, 9ice, Reminisce and many others.
In the past two weeks, his old tracks suddenly resurfaced and went viral on social media in Nigeria. Internet memes of all kinds have also been shared online, with short excerpts of the original ‘Egungun Be Careful’ acting as social media status posts.
