Elcee Gweja

Popular Zimbabwean born but South African based afro-pop musician Elcee Gweja is breaking into the South African music industry with his latest dancehall single ‘Poncho Poncho’ and afro soul single ‘Why’.

Elcee’s latest singles ‘Why’ and Poncho Poncho are both love songs which speak to Elcee’s softer side. He is a proudly African artists whose lyrics are in both English and Shona. He believes that with the international success of artists such Davido and Wizkid as well as Shomajozi’s recent BET award win, it is clear that the spotlight is on African music right now and it’s time for us to proudly sing in our languages and be proud of our African sound.

Born in Gutu and raised in the mining town of Shurugwi Zimbabwe, he is one of seven children out of a family that was deep rooted in the church and all in the choir. His love of music grew stronger and the passion he possessed for it drew him into the music industry. It was inevitable, music was his destiny.

Elcee moved to South Africa in 2007 and set up a studio (MGF Records International) in Johannesburg where he began working as a producer producing beats for a lot of different artists with different genres and cultures and earning the name ‘Elcee The Beat God’. He believes in not stopping until he reaches the peak and have shared the stage with Jamaican artist Beanie Man, South Africa’s Admiral and Jah Seed, Cameroon’s Alino Alino and Buffalo Souljah and many more.

Elcee who believes in not stopping until he reaches the peak has no genre that he cannot work on.

Stating that he does not have a favorite venue to perform, he enjoys performing for his fans wherever the music takes him. Capetown the mother city is mostly where his shows are showcased. Elcee considers his music as a pain killer. He writes music that is positive and gives the listener ‘good vibes’.
